AIR FRYED TEMPURA-STYLE BEANS

PREP TIME: 15 MINUTES

AIR FRY: 10-12 MINUTES

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1/2 lb. trimmed green beans
  • 2 tbsp. all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup bread crumbs
  • 2 large eggs
  • Olive oil or, if available, cooking spray
  • 1 thinly sliced scallion
  • 2 tbsp water
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp. mirin
  • 1 1/2 tsp. fresh calamansi juice 

INSTRUCTIONS:

  • In a large bowl, toss beans with flour until coated. In a shallow bowl, break up bread crumbs with your hands into smaller bits to help them adhere to the beans.
  • In another shallow bowl, beat the eggs to blend.
    Shake off excess flour from beans. Dip into eggs, then breadcrumbs, and gently press.
  • Work in batches. Spray oil in the air fryer basket with cooking spray. Arrange beans in a single layer and spray beans with cooking spray.
  • Cook at 350°, flipping halfway through, until the crust is golden and the beans are tender, 10 to 12 minutes.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk scallion, water, soy sauce, mirin, and lemon juice.
  • Serve beans with sauce alongside.
